Cambodia Says Willing to Hold Talks; Thai Foreign Minister: Premise is to Stop Hostile Actions

Senior Cambodian officials stated that Cambodia is willing to hold bilateral talks with Thailand immediately. The Thai Foreign Minister says the premise is that Cambodia must stop hostile actions.

Su Yowara, a senior advisor to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, said in an interview with foreign media on the 9th that Cambodia is willing to immediately hold bilateral talks with Thailand, stating, "If both sides agree to sit at the negotiating table and start communication, that would be a very good thing."

In response, Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak said that Thailand is willing to listen to Cambodia's opinions, but the premise is that Cambodia must stop hostile actions and take the first step proactively.

Sihasak said: "What Cambodia can do now is stop what they are doing and show a willingness to engage in dialogue."

The Latest Round of Clashes Has Left 4 Thais Dead, 68 Injured

According to Xinhua News Agency, Thailand's 2nd Army Region announced on Tuesday night that recent clashes between Thailand and Cambodia have resulted in 4 Thai soldiers killed and 68 wounded.

The announcement said that from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day, Cambodian troops launched fierce attacks on Thai military bases and positions in multiple areas, using BM-21 rocket launchers 125 times, firing about 5,000 rockets, and dispatching 33 drones. The main areas attacked by Cambodian forces include the border areas of Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, and Surin provinces. The Thai military responded with corresponding firepower. At present, the fighting is still ongoing.

Trump Promises to Mediate Cambodia-Thailand Conflict Again

According to Russia's Sputnik News Agency, U.S. President Trump has pledged to intervene again to resolve the recently rekindled border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.

During a public speech, U.S. President Trump acknowledged that the Thailand-Cambodia conflict he had previously mediated successfully has now erupted again and promised to work on resolving the issue once more.

"Thailand and Cambodia erupted in conflict today. Tomorrow I have to make a call… I’ll make a call and end this conflict," he promised the audience during a speech in Pennsylvania.

The Cambodian Ministry of Defense issued a statement on the 9th, saying the clashes have left 7 Cambodian civilians dead and another 20 injured.
