(S City, 18th) On November 15th and 16th, the “Southeast Asia Forum 2025” international conference, organized by South China Normal University, was successfully held in Guangzhou, China. With the theme of “Inclusive Cooperation and Resilient Development between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area—Hainan Free Trade Port—and Southeast Asia in Times of Major Change,” the forum attracted more than 300 representatives from China, various Southeast Asian countries, and other regions of the world, including those from academia, business, and multiple industries.
The Brunei delegation was invited to attend, with members including the Vice President of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, several deans, heads of research institutes, and social elites.
After the opening ceremony, delegates from South China Normal University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Fudan University, as well as universities from Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, Macau, Hong Kong, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, and other countries and regions delivered keynote speeches, jointly exploring new opportunities for regional cooperation.
This forum consisted of a main forum and four sub-forums, focusing on multi-dimensional cooperation and development between China and Southeast Asia in economic and trade, technology, education, culture, and security. Topics of the sub-forums included: “Challenges and Countermeasures in China-Southeast Asia Economic and Trade Cooperation,” “Improving the Quality of China-Southeast Asia Cooperation in Science, Technology and Education under Artificial Intelligence,” “Southeast Asian History and Culture: Exchange and Symbiosis,” and “Security and Development between China and Southeast Asia under Changing Geopolitics.” Around 50 thematic reports were presented during the conference, demonstrating the high level of attention from academia and practitioners to regional issues.
In addition, the “Southeast Asia Forum” specially invited Professor Tan Tai Yong, President of the Singapore University of Social Sciences, to deliver a keynote speech entitled “A 700-Year History of Singapore,” providing participants with deep historical perspectives and insights.
This forum was organized under the guidance of the Secretariat of the Ministry of Education for Country and Regional Studies, South China Normal University, and the China Industry-University-Research Institute Collaboration Association, and jointly hosted by the Southeast Asia Research Center of South China Normal University, the Guangdong International Cultural Exchange Center, and other entities, with academic support provided by the Regional and Country Studies Branch of the Chinese Higher Education Association. Organizing and co-organizing units included multiple schools and institutions of South China Normal University, as well as educational organizations such as the Southern Alliance for International Chinese Language Education and Guangzhou Yinghao School.
Several enterprises also provided strong support for the successful holding of the forum, including Guangdong Shengchuang Digital Intelligence Electronics Manufacturing Co., Ltd., China National Urban Construction Investment Group No.8 Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., Guangdong Beifu Education Technology Co., Ltd., and Century Golden Resources Investment Group Co., Ltd. All parties worked hand in hand to ensure the smooth operation of this high-level international academic exchange platform.
The convening of this forum has built an important dialogue mechanism for deep cooperation between China and Southeast Asian countries under a complex international situation and has injected new momentum into promoting inclusive regional growth and sustainable development.
