Jet Li Refutes Heart Transplant Rejuvenation Rumors: 'Wouldn't That Be Living in Misery?'

62-year-old “Kung Fu Emperor” Jet Li was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in 2013, and after taking medication, he gained significant weight. Rumors began circulating that he had heart problems, and at one point he appeared so aged that he was nearly unrecognizable. However, he then seemed to experience a miraculous rejuvenation. The internet went wild with speculation that he had received a heart transplant from a Shaolin monk named Qiufeng, or had undergone cutting-edge procedures such as injecting “youthful blood” into his body to regain his youth. Though he has clarified multiple times, some netizens still do not believe him. On the 7th, he posted a video discussing his views on youth and life and death, intentionally turning off all beauty filters to present the lines and wrinkles on his face, seemingly hinting that his previous rejuvenated appearance was just the effect of filters. He said, “What’s the purpose of (becoming) young? If I lived to be 150 or 300, and my mental and physical state was kept at 60 or 70, I’d rather not. Wouldn’t that be living in misery?”

In response to rumors about a heart transplant, Jet Li has once even taken off his shirt to show his upper body, allowing netizens to see that there were no surgical scars. However, some skeptical netizens even speculated that he was using artificial skin or a flesh-like covering to hide any scars, refusing to believe him no matter what, which has caused him much distress.

This time, in his video, he denied having any heart problems. He said, “If the heart is fine, is it worth taking the risk of having a heart transplant just for youth? Who would take such a big (organ rejection) risk?”—thereby indirectly refuting the rumors of his rejuvenation via heart transplant. As for blood replacement rumors, he also denied them, saying, “If it’s just for youthfulness, wouldn’t a facelift be much easier? Wouldn’t cosmetic procedures be even more effective?”

He shared that he has written a book called “Transcending Life and Death,” introducing his own research on life and death. “Where did I come from, and where am I going? How do I transcend life and death? What needs to be transcended is not the hardware (the physical body). With advances in technology, living to 150 might be possible in the future, but no matter how much longevity is extended, the hardware will eventually decompose. So, what must be transcended is the spiritual world—call it soul, consciousness, or whatever name.” This shows that he himself does not care so much about the physical body. He humorously said, “Getting younger is easy—dye your hair, put on makeup, use beauty filters and you’ll look young.” He seems puzzled as to why such absurd rumors exist.
