On the 18th, Myanmar's military government announced its willingness to offer cash rewards to members of armed groups who defect and 'return to the right path' before the elections.
According to state-run media 'The Global New Light of Myanmar', the military government will provide a specified cash reward to those who turn themselves in with weapons and ammunition.
However, as the government's mouthpiece, the report did not disclose the exact amount.
The report also pointed out that since the 'welcoming defectors' announcement issued two weeks ago, 14 anti-coup armed fighters have already surrendered, including 12 men and 2 women.
The report said that these individuals chose to abandon armed resistance because they longed for a peaceful life within a legal framework.
Since the 2021 coup, Myanmar has fallen into civil war, with pro-democracy guerrilla forces and ethnic armed organizations rising one after another, leaving the military government stretched thin. In March this year, the military government announced that a general election would be held in December 2025 or January 2026.
