Pheu Thai Party: Prime Minister Paetongtarn Will Not Resign

(Bangkok/Phnom Penh, 22nd) Multiple regions across Thailand have recently witnessed anti-government protests demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Paetongtarn, but Pheu Thai Party Secretary-General Srettha has made it clear that Paetongtarn will neither resign nor dissolve parliament.
Srettha is also Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports. On Saturday (June 21), he posted on Facebook stating that the rumors about Paetongtarn possibly resigning or dissolving parliament after the budget is passed are "completely untrue."
He wrote: "The Prime Minister has already made it clear to us that she will continue to do her utmost to fulfill her duties and resolve the various crises currently facing the country... The government will continue to function, will not resign, and will not dissolve parliament."
He added that the Paetongtarn government is currently focused on resolving the Thailand-Cambodia border dispute and has strengthened diplomatic and security measures, while also responding to the US tariff crisis, among others.
According to The Nation, Bhumjaithai Party leader Anutin held a press conference on Friday (20th) denying that he was attempting to woo other opposition parties to topple the government.
He said: "Rumors are just rumors. We have already withdrawn from the (ruling) coalition and are now independent. We will do our utmost in our own responsibilities and have no plans to form a new government."
Regarding opposition groups calling on the public to stage a large-scale protest on June 28, Anutin said: "I hope the country remains calm and moves forward."
After an audio recording of a conversation between Paetongtarn and former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen was leaked, Bhumjaithai Party, originally the second-largest party in the coalition, announced its withdrawal. This has left the Paetongtarn government with only a slim majority in the lower house.
In the conversation, Paetongtarn asked Hun Sen to help ease the border dispute and even criticized Thai border military commanders. Thai Foreign Minister Maris stated that the government has recalled Ambassador Tul from Cambodia. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that this was not to sever diplomatic ties with Cambodia, but rather for routine discussions with the ambassador.
On Saturday, Second Army Region Commander Binsin stated that the Thai-Cambodian border area is completely calm and there are no renewed clashes between the two militaries.
However, Cambodia's Ministry of Defense has claimed that Thailand has recently increased military activities at the border, including more frequent drone reconnaissance missions and digging trenches.
Cambodian Defense Minister Tea Seiha emphasized on Friday that Cambodia does not have warplanes capable of attacking Bangkok, Thailand, but has adequate defensive capacity to protect the country, including air defense systems, anti-tank artillery, and coastal defense weapons.
