(Kuching, 16th) Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd continues to demonstrate its concern and commitment to social development and community welfare through the “Menstrual Hygiene Management” (MHM) program held at SMK Tebakang, Serian.
This one-day program, run in collaboration with Athena Holdings Sdn Bhd, benefited over 250 female students aged between 13 and 14 at the school.
Through its Sadaqa House Fund, Bank Islam allocated a total of RM37,500 to provide participating students with reusable menstrual hygiene kits and reproductive health education materials.
Bank Islam’s Director of Social Finance, Mohamad Zulkri Mohamad Shari, stated: “This initiative aims to address period poverty and empower female students in rural areas by equipping them with basic menstrual knowledge, helping them overcome social stigma, and fostering better personal hygiene habits.”
He added that the MHM program is a continuation of the bank's first collaborative project with Athena, launched in 2019 at Rumah Anak Yatim dan Miskin Kampung Silad, Ranau, Sabah, which then benefited 47 female students.
“With the continued public support for the Sadaqa House Fund, this collaboration has expanded to benefit over 250 students at Tebakang Secondary School. The MHM program not only raises participants’ awareness of reproductive health but also encourages open discussion of related topics and educates students about using more environmentally friendly and sustainable menstrual products, such as reusable sanitary pads.”
He said Bank Islam is deeply grateful for the trust and generous contributions from the public to the Sadaqa House Fund, which enables the bank to implement impactful social projects nationwide.
“We also welcome continued support from all sectors to jointly enhance overall social welfare, especially in helping vulnerable groups.”
Athena founder and Impact Director Anja Juliah pointed out that the Menstrual Hygiene Management Program is not just about imparting menstrual knowledge.
“It is also a platform for young girls to understand their bodies, maintain dignity, and become a voice for change within the community. We believe that education empowers them to go further in life.”
The public may donate to the Sadaqa House Fund through account (140 140 101 88888) or visit the official website www.sadaqahouse.com.my for more information.
