(Kuching, 8th) The Kuching Immigration Department Enforcement Team carried out an enforcement operation on January 6, 2026, detaining a total of 48 foreign nationals for various violations under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Akta Imigresen 1959/63).
The Sarawak Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM Sarawak) stated in a press release that this joint operation mobilized 28 immigration officers and personnel, inspecting 96 people at various locations in Kuching, including Kuching City Mall commercial area, Desa Ilmu commercial area, and food premises at Matang Hub.
The statement added: "The inspection found that some foreign nationals did not possess valid travel documents and permits, and were suspected of working illegally at the premises."
"All those detained have been brought to the Kuching Immigration Office for further action and investigation."
The Malaysian Immigration Department reiterated that it will continue to intensify enforcement efforts by conducting regular and ongoing operations to uphold the rule of law, and safeguard public safety and social order.
