(Bandar Seri Begawan, 15th) Organized by the Office of Assistant Vice Chancellor for Industry Engagement and Enterprise Development (IEED) at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), the 'Innovfest 2025' was officially launched recently.
The four-day innovation and entrepreneurship event brings together students, researchers, industry experts, entrepreneurs, and the public to celebrate bold ideas, collaboration, and entrepreneurial growth.
In her opening speech, Dr. Masaylu, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Industry Engagement and Enterprise Development (IEED) at UBD, emphasized that InnovFest 2025 is a new interpretation of the previous incubator festival, aimed at reflecting its broader mission to create an inclusive platform that welcomes students, postgraduates, academic staff, and industry stakeholders from various faculties to showcase innovative results, prototypes, and research findings with commercialization potential.
She further highlighted that the student evaluation for the 2025 Innovfest adopts international standards such as the Babson Global Student Challenge scoring system, reinforcing UBD's commitment to aligning with global best practices in entrepreneurship education.
During his address at the festival, UBD Vice Chancellor Dr. Hazri emphasized that the 2025 InnovFest is guided by UBD's entrepreneurial blueprint, which is a long-term vision aimed at positioning the university as a catalyst for innovation and economic development in teaching, research, and community engagement.
He also mentioned the recent global honor awarded at the 2025 Babson Collaborative Spotlight Award in Paris, which was given to the IEED Office and its entrepreneurship management team.
He further emphasized that UBD is the first university in Asia to receive this honor, highlighting UBD's commitment to cultivating excellence in leadership, teamwork, and collaborative spirit.
After the opening ceremony, the guest of honor visited the booths and project display areas. During the event, students participating in projects such as 'U-Beyond Incubator Year Exploration', 'Entrepreneurship Lab', and 'Digital Scientist Entrepreneurship' at UBD will showcase their achievements to academia and industry.
The event also features a research project display area, where UBD faculty and postgraduates will present cutting-edge research findings and innovative models. This provides valuable opportunities for knowledge exchange, cross-sector collaboration, and public engagement with ongoing university research.
In addition to various exhibitions and displays, the 2025 InnovFest also includes vibrant activities such as entrepreneurship workshops for visiting schools and colleges, business dialogues with prominent Bruneian startup figures, and lectures from young business leaders. The onsite 'Spark & Create' activity station also offers interactive activities for young participants, including educational games, art stations, and entrepreneurship-themed treasure hunts, aimed at inspiring the next generation of thinkers and creators.
The exhibition by UBD alumni and industry partners focuses on showcasing partnerships and innovative outcomes across various industries, providing more opportunities for exchange and collaboration.
