Former Minister in charge of Economic Security Sanae Takaichi won the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) presidential election held on the 4th, becoming the 29th president of the LDP.
There were five candidates in this election, including not only Sanae Takaichi but also former LDP Secretary-General Toshimitsu Motegi, current Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Shinjiro Koizumi, and former Minister in charge of Economic Security Takayuki Kobayashi.
Since the LDP currently remains the largest party in the National Diet, Sanae Takaichi is expected to become Japan's first female prime minister in the prime ministerial election to be held in a few days.
