After 72 Israeli lawmakers signed a joint statement supporting Taiwan’s participation in international organizations, the Chinese Embassy in Israel expressed firm opposition and lodged a stern protest, further stating, "This is yet another example of the DPP authorities resorting to any means to promote 'Taiwan independence' internationally."
According to the Jerusalem Post, 72 Israeli lawmakers from both the ruling coalition and opposition parties signed a joint statement on the 24th condemning the exclusion of Taiwan from international organizations, calling it “unreasonable and irresponsible.”
On the 25th, a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Israel commented on the situation, stating that this was yet another example of the DPP authorities resorting to any means to advance “Taiwan independence” on the international stage. Certain Israeli lawmakers taking the lead in supporting Taiwan’s participation in international organizations that are reserved for sovereign states constitutes an open challenge to the one-China principle.
In addition to reiterating its stance that "there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inseparable part of China’s territory," the Chinese Embassy in Israel also remarked, "With certain Israeli lawmakers taking the lead to issue such a statement, we must ask: Are they truly aware of what it means for the Taiwan authorities to join the international organizations they mention?"
The spokesperson further questioned whether the support of certain Israeli lawmakers for Taiwan to stand on equal footing with sovereign states on the international stage means they want to side with ‘Taiwan independence’ forces and split China, or become accomplices in undermining the stability of the Taiwan Strait?
The spokesperson concluded by advising certain Israeli lawmakers to stand on the right side of history and do more things that benefit China-Israel relations and the Israeli people, instead of the opposite.
