Rutte Meets with Trump; No Discussion on Denmark's Sovereignty over Greenland

On the 21st, NATO Secretary General Rutte stated that during his earlier meeting with U.S. President Trump that day, there was no discussion regarding Denmark's sovereignty over Greenland.

He made this response when asked in an interview with Fox News whether Greenland would continue to belong to Denmark.

He said: "During my conversation with the president tonight, this issue was not brought up again."

He stated that Trump was very concerned about what both parties need to do to ensure the security of the vast Arctic region—which is currently undergoing changes, with increasing activities from China and Russia, and how everyone should protect it.

He said: "That was the focus of our discussion."

Earlier, Trump noted that he had established a framework with Rutte regarding a future agreement on Greenland; therefore, he would not implement the previously planned tariff increases on eight European countries, which were scheduled to take effect on February 1.
