59 police personnel to oversee DBKU Road Race 3.0, major roads in Kuching to be closed Sept 7

KUCHING, Sept 4: A total of 59 police personnel, including senior and junior officers, will be deployed to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety during the DBKU Road Race 3.0 in Kuching on Sept 7 (Sunday).

The cycling race, covering a distance of 126.1 kilometres, will start at Tugu Pahlawan, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, and end at the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) headquarters, with the route spanning across Kuching, Padawan, and Bau.
Sarawak deputy police commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak said in a press statement that the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) has been tasked with ensuring safety and traffic control throughout the event.

“The main priority is to ensure that DBKU Road Race 3.0 proceeds smoothly and safely without disrupting public convenience,” he noted.

For operations, PDRM has formed a Race Team consisting of five senior officers (PKP) and 49 JSPT personnel. Police will also deploy six patrol cars and 41 heavy motorcycles along the race route.

Several major roads will be used as race circuits and will be closed or diverted temporarily from 6am until the race ends. These include Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Satok, Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, Jalan Datuk Bandar Mustapha, Jalan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wee Boon Ping, Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong, Jalan Batu Kawa-Bau, Jalan Singai-Matang, Jalan Matang-Politeknik, Jalan Sultan Tengah, and several roundabouts such as Demak Jaya, Abang Haji Suleiman, Semariang, and Bukit Siol DBKU.

Saifullizan reminded the public to plan their travel in advance, especially if they need to pass through city centres.

“We advise the public to comply with traffic signs and instructions from police personnel on duty.

“Enforcement action under the Road Transport Act 1987 will be taken against anyone who refuses to follow directions,” he added.

The public is also encouraged to use alternative routes to avoid congestion on Sept 7.
