The Sultan of Brunei Urges Strengthened Interdepartmental Collaboration, Implementation of Performance Indicators to Advance 2035 Vision

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 16th) His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei hopes that the government’s coordination mechanisms will continue to strengthen the consistently emphasized "whole-of-government collaboration" approach to ensure the realization of Brunei's Vision 2035 goals.

At the closing of the 92nd Cabinet Meeting held at Istana Nurul Iman, His Majesty pointed out that there is now less than 10 years left before the target deadline for Brunei’s Vision 2035, and that ministries can no longer operate in isolation or independently.

"Coordinating Ministers must play the main bridging role by coordinating government efforts, priorities, and actions to achieve the shared goal of people’s well-being and national progress."

His Majesty emphasized that the position of Coordinating Minister, established during the last Cabinet reshuffle, is not merely a title, but an important trust designed to ensure that efforts in national security, economy, society, and human resources are aligned with the nation’s established objectives.

"In this context, Coordinating Ministers must provide key leadership and coordinate cross-departmental or ‘cross-sector’ issues within their respective jurisdictions that involve multiple agencies."

His Majesty pointed out that Coordinating Ministers have the responsibility to ensure there are no implementation gaps between departments, and they have been authorized to issue appropriate directives to relevant ministries and coordinate actions on cross-sector matters of national interest.

However, His Majesty stressed that any matters involving the formulation of new policies, adjustments to strategically significant national policies, major resource allocation or transfer, as well as interdepartmental coordination with significant impact on national interests, must obtain His Majesty’s approval in advance.

At the same time, His Majesty hopes that all approved Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and targets can be implemented through clear, precise, and focused actions.

He said that all ministries must translate the approved KPIs and targets into concrete action plans, with clearly defined implementation timelines, division of responsibilities, and effective supervisory mechanisms.

"I am pleased to hear the ministers' reports and opinions, which clearly reflect the government's direction, priorities, and key areas in implementing the national development agenda."

His Majesty expressed the hope that all departments would continue to strengthen collaboration to ensure that national development policies can be effectively implemented, and continue to move steadily towards achieving the Vision 2035.
