Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that the department will discuss with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living to ban the sale of 'fake seat belt buckles' on the market and explore ways to strengthen regulations and enforcement actions.
He said to the media after attending the Klang Port Authority's Chinese New Year gathering and the launch of the Malaysian Maritime Single Window (MMSW) system that using fake buckles is illegal.
He expressed regret, 'Many new car models have seat belt warning systems, where sensors will issue a warning sound if the driver and passengers do not fasten their seat belts. 'However, the inventors of 'fake buckles' are too clever, thinking they can use this method to bypass the seat belt sensors, allowing people to drive without fastening their seat belts.' But, in the event of an accident, it endangers lives.
