Miri District Secondary School 'Water Rocket Challenge' to be held on May 14 at St. Columba's Secondary School

(Miri, 24th) The Miri District Secondary School 'Water Rocket Challenge' will take place on May 14 on the lawn of St. Columba's Secondary School. This event is a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) activity hosted by the Sarawak State Education Department (Extracurricular Activities) in collaboration with local Education Departments (PPD) and co-organized by St. Columba's Secondary School. It aims to introduce water rocket launching technology, uncover students' talents and creativity, and provide knowledge about space science and physical engineering theories to stimulate students' interest in science and technology subjects.
 
This year, under the auspices of the Miri Education Department, a preparatory committee for the 'Water Rocket Challenge' was established by St. Columba's Secondary School Principal Jin Ben Ma Sang, Vice-Principal of Extracurricular Activities Huang Xiaoming, Physics Director Jiang Luoxian, mathematics and science teachers, and student representatives. The committee is responsible for the overall planning and organization of the competition. The preparatory committee drafted an activity plan: determining the time, location, participants, competition items, competition rules, reward methods, safety precautions, budget, etc.
 
Principal Jin Ben Ma Sang of St. Columba's Secondary School stated that this challenge will assess students' practical skills, innovation abilities, and teamwork and collaboration skills, while enhancing their understanding of physics knowledge. He also thanked Vice-Principal of Extracurricular Activities Huang Xiaoming and Physics Director Jiang Luoxian for leading the team to jointly organize this competition. It is not only an interesting competition but also a valuable learning experience that can ignite students' enthusiasm for scientific exploration and develop their innovative thinking and practical abilities.
 
The schedule for the Water Rocket Challenge is as follows:
7:30 am - 8:00 am: Registration/Inspection of Items
8:00 am - 8:10 am: Briefing
8:10 am - 12:10 pm: Water Rocket Design and Construction
12:10 pm - 1:10 pm: Lunch Break
1:10 pm - 2:10 pm: Water Rocket Target Launch
2:20 pm - 2:20 pm: Break
2:20 pm - 3:20 pm: Payload Parachute Launch
3:20 pm - 3:30 pm: Break
3:30 pm - 4:00 pm: Closing Ceremony
 
The preparation committee sincerely invites all secondary schools in the Miri district to actively participate in this challenge. This is an event designed to provide secondary school students with opportunities to showcase their talents, exchange learning experiences, and unleash their potential.
