Sultan: Strengthen Quranic Education—Understand and Comprehend Its Teachings

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 30th)—His Majesty the Sultan stated that this Quran recitation competition should be seen as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen comprehensive Quranic learning.
In addition, the government is promoting various Quran-related programs and initiatives through different agencies, such as Quranic skill training, Quranic recitation and appreciation, Quran classes at mosques, youth and community development projects, as well as the increasingly numerous private Quranic learning centers in the country.
“All these efforts aim to improve Quranic reading standards, deepen the understanding of the Quran, and express reverence for the Quran in shaping morals and behavior.”
His Majesty delivered his royal speech last night at the International Convention Centre during the finals of the 2026 National Adult Quran Recitation Competition.
His Majesty expressed gratitude to Allah for gathering everyone on this holy night, adding vitality to the finals of the 2026 National Adult Quran Recitation Competition.

“I notice that this year’s competition theme is ‘Strengthen the Study and Comprehension of the Quran’s Teachings’. Indeed, the Quran is not just to be recited but also to be learned, understood, and practiced—making it a guide for life.”
His Majesty then quoted a verse from Allah in Surah Al-Isra’ (Chapter 18, verse 9) of the Quran, which is interpreted as: “Indeed, this Quran guides to that which is most upright, and gives glad tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds, that they will have a great reward.”
His Majesty said that this verse explains that learning the Quran does not end with recitation but requires us to understand and grasp the teachings contained within.
To further strengthen the culture of Quranic recitation among the people, His Majesty also noted a new initiative launched by the Ministry of Religious Affairs—a “Children’s Quran Recitation Program” (STAKA) specifically for children aged 10 to 11.

His Majesty said this program is an important step in nurturing children’s love for the Quran from an early age.

“Through this program, children will receive early training and guidance, learning the knowledge of reciting the Quran, thereby cultivating their love for it. I believe that nurturing this love during childhood is crucial and forms the foundation for the development of noble character and personality.”
His Majesty remarked that in today’s era of rapid technological development, the use of digital media to learn, spread, and appreciate the Quran is becoming increasingly popular.
However, His Majesty pointed out, relying on technology alone is not enough for one to truly appreciate the essence of the Quran; a love for the Quran is also essential.

Lastly, His Majesty called on people to always take the Quran as their guide in life, because according to the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad, the Quran will appear as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Judgment.

His Majesty said, to all this year’s champions and those who advanced to the national finals, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes.
