(Miri, 1st) Miri Golf Club President Chen Rongguang pointed out that the club had been mired in financial deficits for the past four years, but 2024 marked a major turnaround, successfully recording a surplus of RM51,000. The club’s financial situation has gradually stabilized and is now moving towards more robust development.
He said that although the dinner was held in 2025, the event’s purpose was to celebrate the achievements made in 2024, including charitable contributions, sports accomplishments, and a series of management reforms.
Members’ Monthly RM2 Charity Fund Benefits 9 Units
One of the important highlights of the dinner was the presentation of charitable donations to nine charitable organizations in Miri. These funds come from fixed monthly donations of RM2 from each member.
Chen thanked the members for their quiet acts of kindness. Although the amount of RM2 is not large, with the collective participation of members, it has become a continuous force in helping vulnerable groups.
Chen Personally Sponsors Prizes On the evening of the dinner, the “President’s Cup Golf Tournament” was also held. Members were exempted from registration fees and could use golf carts for free, with all prizes personally sponsored by Chen Rongguang.
He said that this was his way of expressing gratitude to the members as president, symbolizing the camaraderie and cohesion within the club. During the event, overall championship awards for 2024 in the men’s and women’s categories were presented, as well as recognition for players who achieved a "hole-in-one."
Chen stated that the outstanding performance of the winners proves that KGM is not only a sports venue but also a platform for everyone to pursue excellence and growth.
He also took the opportunity to thank volunteer committee members, who in the past two years have devoted large amounts of time and energy to improving KGM's operational quality.

Chen Rongguang admitted that over the past four years, the club faced long-term severe financial pressure and even consecutive losses, making operations difficult. However, the financial turnaround in 2024 mainly came from the following key contributors: former Captain Datuk Lin Shuqian’s generous donations and fundraising, which raised RM50,000 and significantly strengthened the club’s financial base; and Miri Mayor Yu Xiaoshan fully sponsoring the golf cart fire extinguishing system, which enhanced the club’s safety facilities.
“With this support, along with other sponsorships, the club achieved a surplus of RM51,000 in 2024, significantly improving its financial standing.” He especially expressed gratitude to the two contributors who could not attend, thanking them for lending a helping hand at critical moments.
Chen pointed out that the members' proposal last year to increase the monthly fee from RM110 to RM140 was an important decision to ensure the club's sustainable development.
He explained that the additional RM30 will become a reserve fund for future repairs and key equipment maintenance, and the club will implement repair plans in stages according to the accumulation of these funds. “Without this adjustment, the committee would have to operate under extremely tight constraints, affecting overall quality.”
Chen urged members to continue supporting the club's various policies, maintain KGM’s status as a treasured asset of the Miri community, and pass its good condition on to the next generation.
He emphasized that KGM is not just a sports venue, but also a charitable community, a sports family, and a community platform united by solidarity and goodwill. He thanked members for their long-standing trust and hopes that everyone will continue to work together to drive the club towards a more stable and prosperous future.
