On Saturday, Indonesian search and rescue authorities successfully used drones to locate the positions of the two Singaporean hikers missing after the eruption of Mount Dukono. The two have been found trapped near the edge of the volcano’s crater, but their current condition—alive or dead—remains unconfirmed.

According to Reuters, Ivan, head of Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), indicated that the rescue team had monitored the exact coordinates of the missing individuals via drone.

“We have pinpointed their location, right near the edge of the crater. This matches the description given by those who were previously rescued.”

Abdul, spokesperson for Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), said the two Singaporean hikers are believed to be about 20 to 30 meters from the main crater’s edge.

However, rescue teams have yet to find another Indonesian hiker who went missing since Friday.

Mount Dukono, located on Halmahera Island in North Maluku Province, violently erupted on Friday, sending an ash column 10 kilometers high and leaving several hikers stranded in the mountains.

Authorities are continuing their search and rescue efforts, hoping to confirm the situation of the missing individuals and carry out rescues as soon as possible.
