55-year-old American rap king Diddy has held drug-fueled sex parties involving sex workers for years. He was arrested last year, but in July this year, he was acquitted of the most serious charges of sex trafficking and extortion, thus avoiding life imprisonment. Instead, he was convicted on two counts related to transporting prostitutes involving his American singer ex Cassie and another anonymous woman. Yesterday (3rd), Diddy appeared in a New York court for sentencing. His lawyer argued that Diddy had served enough time with just one year in prison and should be released immediately, while the prosecution requested a sentence of more than 11 years. Ultimately, the judge sentenced Diddy to 50 months in prison (4 years and 2 months) and fined him $500,000 (about 2.1 million ringgit). The judge praised the many victims who bravely stood up to accuse Diddy of assault, intimidation, sexual assault, and extortion, saying they spoke up for others who had suffered abuse: 'You have given them a voice. You stood firm in the face of power.'
Before his sentencing, Diddy's lawyers played videos in court showing his family life, career, and charity work. Diddy also apologized in court to the victims who had suffered physically and mentally from his 'disgusting and shameful behavior,' pleading with the judge that he hoped to have another chance to be a father, son, and leader. His seven children tearfully pleaded on his behalf as well. Diddy looked dejected when the sentence was read, and told family members present as he left the courtroom: 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry.' His lawyer criticized the judge for being unfair and said they would appeal.
