(Sarikei, 18th) The Sarikei Social Welfare Department (PKMB Sarikei) is making efforts to locate the biological mother or family of a baby girl currently under the care of a child protection officer from the department.
The department received the abandoned baby girl on April 10 this year, when she was found left in a room of a rented house on Tunku Osman Road in Sibu, estimated to be about 3 months old at the time.
The initial police report regarding this incident has been lodged at the Sibu Central Police Station.
It is understood that the case is still under investigation by the child protection officer and is being handled in accordance with the Children Act 2001.
The child protection officer needs to contact the baby’s family in order to obtain necessary information for placement arrangements and birth certificate registration.
The authorities appeal to the public that if anyone has any information regarding the identity of the baby girl or her biological mother, please contact child protection officers Atika or Emy as soon as possible at 084-651005 or 084-644750.
