National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Dagang urged the relevant authorities to take action against the delivery rider allegedly insulting an Indian teacher.
He emphasized that such degrading remarks cannot be tolerated, and the individual involved must receive appropriate punishment.
He believes that the delivery platform should also pay attention to and strictly discipline the individual involved and strengthen the code of conduct for their riders.
He stated in a press release that this incident not only caused disappointment but also tarnished Malaysia's values and etiquette, potentially disrupting racial harmony.
“The Unity Ministry takes this matter seriously, urging the citizens to cultivate an attitude of mutual respect and understanding, and emphasizing that discrimination, hatred, and racism should not occur in Malaysia.”
“I believe this is an isolated incident and does not represent the entire community.”
He reiterated that every citizen should have the responsibility to jointly build a more inclusive, peaceful, and united nation.
Furthermore, the delivery platform Grab has responded to the complaint from the teacher and reassured the concerned teacher that the account of the involved rider has been restricted and the platform is conducting an internal investigation.
Grab thanked the concerned party for bringing this issue to their attention and emphasized that the platform does not tolerate any form of abusive or discriminatory remarks from their riders. They also promised to take appropriate measures.
The platform hopes that all parties can remain patient and understanding during the internal investigation.
Earlier, MalaysiaKini reported that an Indian teacher from Machang Bubuk, Penang, filed a police report alleging that a food delivery rider insulted her with vulgar remarks using the application's chat system.
The teacher, named Amutha, alleged that she sent a message to the rider on April 20 (Sunday) at 4:40 PM inquiring about her char koay teow order, only to be insulted with degrading remarks.
She stated that she sent an inquiry because the estimated delivery time had passed, and unexpectedly faced offensive remarks from the rider, prompting her to file a police report and lodge a complaint.
