On the night of the 2nd, Munich Airport in Germany was suspected of experiencing a drone intrusion. After police received reports from the public, two runways were urgently closed late at night, forcing about 20 flights to be canceled. It is believed that the incident may be connected to a recent series of drone reconnaissance missions targeting key infrastructure.
According to Central News Agency reports, the German Federal Police stated that several members of the public reported seeing drones near the airport, and then someone witnessed a drone in the sky above the airport. The police immediately cordoned off and searched the airport and dispatched helicopters to patrol the area. So far, no suspicious aircraft or suspects have been found.
Germany is currently on high alert for “drone interference.” At the end of September this year, multiple drones appeared in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein, flying in parallel routes over power plants, Kiel University Hospital, and state government buildings—critical infrastructure. Police suspect these aircraft are conducting systematic surveying and have launched investigations on suspicions of espionage.
German security agencies suspect the drones may have been operated from a cargo ship, which subsequently sailed to a Russian port. In addition to Schleswig-Holstein, suspicious drones were also spotted during the same week above the military base in Sanitz, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and above the naval command in Rostock.
Recently, several similar drone interference incidents have also broken out in Northern Europe, with airports in Denmark and Norway forced to close following intrusions. Authorities in both Germany and Scandinavia have not ruled out possible connections to Russia.
