(City, 24th) The 2nd Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia Language Council (MABBIM) Leaders Forum opened yesterday at the Gadong Rizqun Hotel, with the forum continuing until May 24. It aims to bring together regional language leaders to strengthen cooperation and jointly plan the future of the Malay and Indonesian languages.

The forum was chaired by Suip, Acting Director of the Brunei Language and Literature Bureau and head of the Brunei Language Council delegation. In his welcome speech, Suip stated that Brunei is honored to host this forum amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and welcomes the forum's renaming to "Malay and Indonesian Language Leaders Forum," considering it a positive initiative to promote regional language development.

He emphasized that many well-thought-out suggestions were made in past forums, but every concept requires clear and sustainable action plans to be beneficial to all stakeholders. Reflecting on Brunei's participation in the Malay and Indonesian Language Leaders Forum for over 40 years, Suip highlighted the importance of expanding international cooperation to enhance the global influence of the languages while pragmatically advancing development goals.

This year's forum will review and evaluate key decisions of the second forum in 2025, based on the outcomes discussed in the secretariat meeting held at the same place from May 21 to 22. The forum will also promote ongoing regional language cooperation to ensure the maintenance and future development of the Malay and Indonesian languages.
