KUCHING,22 May: Key documents related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) will be housed in Sarawak’s State Archive Building, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said the archive will be a state-of-the-art facility, where both physical and digital copies of important documents will be stored.

“We have both hard and soft copies of documents such as the MA63. I have brought documents from the historical archive museum in London to Sarawak, and I’ve requested that they be kept in our archives for reference,” he said in his speech at the silver jubilee dinner celebration of the Sarawak State Library at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Wednesday (May 21).

Abang Johari said the archive building will play a crucial role in preserving Sarawak’s historical treasures.

On the Sarawak State Library, he said it has received praise from the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

“The Sultan Selangor is an avid reader and has a keen interest in literature. He was very impressed with the Sarawak State Library and wants Selangor’s library to be modelled after ours,” he said.
Meanwhile, speaking about the Digital Community Centre, Abang Johari said individuals of the Graduates Enhancement Training Sarawak (GETS) programme would be able to undergo their internships at centres located within their respective regions.

He added that this initiative, equipped with modern facilities, would offer rural communities in particular, a fresh way to engage with and access literature.

The Premier said the facility will also be extended to senior citizens at the Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE), enabling them to read and access information more conveniently.

He highlighted the impact of this effort, noting that about 86 percent of users have registered for SPAY Global and are now using online payment systems.

“This shows that when we teach people in the rural areas, they can indeed access everything online.

“This is how I hope to encourage our people to keep reading and expanding their knowledge,” he added.
