(Seria, 15th) Chung Cheng Middle School Seria, in collaboration with the Belait District Fire and Rescue Department, successfully held a three-day "Professional Fire Safety Supervisor Training Course" during the third semester school holidays.
The purpose of this course was to strengthen the campus safety system and enhance the ability of teaching and administrative staff to respond to and handle emergencies such as fires. The training attracted a total of 40 education professionals, including 36 teachers, administrative staff, and employees from Chung Cheng Middle School’s kindergarten, primary and secondary sections, as well as 4 teacher representatives from Nawi Chung Hwa School.
The training was led by an elite team from the Fire Department's B District Operations Division, with instructors including duty officers and deputy duty officers from the department’s Corporate Communications Division, as well as several experienced senior firefighters. The course combined theory and practical exercises, providing a rigorous and systematic curriculum that comprehensively covered all key aspects of campus fire safety management.
The first two days of the course were held on the Chung Cheng Middle School campus, covering the establishment of a fire safety knowledge system, practical skills training, and emergency handling strategies. The content included the history and functional divisions of the fire department, the responsibilities of firefighters, privileges and duties in emergency situations, as well as practical sections on the types and uses of fire extinguishers, analysis of common causes of fire in Brunei, and standard equipment operation procedures. In addition, teachers learned about building evacuation steps, fire alarm system usage, laboratory fire prevention measures, and ten techniques for self-rescue and assisting others to escape. The course also included simulated fire scenario drills to enhance teachers' ability to respond in emergencies.
The third day of the course moved to the Belait Fire and Rescue Department for in-depth practical training. Trainees first completed a written test on fire safety knowledge to assess their grasp of the theory. Under professional guidance, they then practiced using fire blankets, operating fire extinguishers, connecting fire hoses, and other hands-on skills. To improve response under pressure, the course arranged for escape simulations in dark, smoke-filled environments with high noise disturbances, training trainees to remain calm and maintain orderly command in extreme situations.
This training not only improved the personal emergency response skills of teachers and staff, but also laid the foundation for a more comprehensive school safety management system. Building on the results of this training, Chung Cheng Middle School will establish a disaster response committee, assign dedicated fire safety supervision roles, promote annual fire drill plans, and implement comprehensive fire prevention education and emergency response protocols for all staff, ensuring disaster prevention capabilities are systematic and routine within the campus.
Principal Jia Renyou stated that the training produced significant results, with participating teachers demonstrating a high sense of responsibility and professionalism, which was very gratifying. The school will continue to maintain close cooperation with relevant agencies, continue to optimize campus safety mechanisms, and strengthen daily management, creating a safer and more secure learning and living environment for all teachers and students.
Teachers who participated in the training also agreed that although the course was tightly scheduled and the training intensity was high, the content was highly practical—not only equipping them with essential emergency response skills, but also greatly boosting their confidence and ability to stay calm in unexpected events. It was an exceptionally worthwhile learning experience during the school holidays, with immense gains and valuable takeaways.
