Host Shen Yulin was diagnosed with leukemia and temporarily stopped working. He announced he would attend the press conference for PTS Taiwanese channel's new variety show "Black-and-White William Fighting," which premieres March 4. Many wondered whether it was too soon after his illness for him to return to work, and if he should rest longer. Tonight, he responded in a post: "I'm very grateful for everyone's concern about my health. To avoid speculation, I'd like to explain everything clearly here."
Shen Yulin stated, "My treatment has finished. Currently, I'm in the hospital having blood tests every other day. As soon as my platelet count rises a little more, I can be discharged at any time. My physical strength and mental condition are normal, so the doctor allows me to take leave and do things I enjoy, which is why I can attend the launch press conference for the new PTS show 'Black-and-White William' on March 4. It's also possible that I'll already be discharged by that day."
All blood indicators within normal range
There are concerns about his health, with people thinking he should rest longer before returning to work. But he says, "That's a misunderstanding about my illness. There are many types of leukemia. Fortunately, I'm in the low-risk group that does not need a bone marrow transplant. So after there are no detectable cancer-causing genes, as long as all my blood counts are within normal range, I'm no different from an average healthy person, and there's really no issue of whether I need additional rest. Everyone knows that the work I do brings people joy and makes me happy, too. So, getting back to work quickly is actually the best way for me to recuperate."
Work plans
Regarding future work plans, he said: "My various original programs will gradually resume, and there are even new shows and endorsement deals under negotiation." As for his smooth return to showbiz, "I want to express my deep gratitude to my attending physician, Professor Hou Xin-An, as well as the entire nursing team who cared for me, the production teams who've been waiting and encouraging me, and of course, my family and all the benefactors who have supported and helped me along the way."
