(Kuching, 24th) The Sarawak Media Sports Carnival (KASUMeS), held in conjunction with National Journalists Day, aims to strengthen interaction and links between the state government and local media.

Datuk Abdullah Saido, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Office (Corporate Affairs, News, and Public Communication), pointed out that this event, organized by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), is not only a platform for promoting a healthy lifestyle and leisure entertainment, but also serves as a key to strengthening professional and interpersonal relationships between media practitioners and the government.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Sarawak Sports Carnival Southern Zone event held this morning at Petra Jaya Sarawak Pickleball Court, he said the event has already been held in the three regions of Miri, Sibu, and Kuching, in conjunction with National Journalists Day. Currently, it includes sports such as pickleball, badminton, bowling, and futsal.

Saido also revealed that the organizers are considering adding more novel events in the future, including outdoor adventure and extreme sports. He suggested adding activities like mountain climbing, jungle trekking, and visits to world heritage sites such as Bakun or Mulu to make the event more attractive.
Datuk Abdullah Saido also demonstrates his skills.
"Media practitioners usually only meet at press conferences or official events and lack opportunities for relaxed interaction. The Carnival provides a stress-free platform for everyone to interact."

He also suggested that each media organization set up official sports teams to participate in the events, and proposed forming a subcommittee made up of media representatives to assist UKAS in coordinating future events.

Saido emphasized that the media should continue to serve as the government’s strategic partner, helping to disseminate accurate, responsible, and ethical information. He said, "We hope media practitioners will continue to assist the government to ensure that every policy and effort reaches the people’s hearts."

"Especially with the various policy agendas led by the Sarawak Premier, it is even more important that all sectors of society understand and support them."

The 2025 Sarawak Sports Carnival successfully attracted print, broadcast, and digital media practitioners from all over Sarawak. In a relaxed, healthy, and harmonious atmosphere, it not only facilitates exchanges, but also enhances the sense of belonging and cohesion among media industry professionals.
