However, by the close of the day, Oracle’s stock had given back part of its gains, finishing with a nearly 36% jump—which was still its largest single-day increase since 1992. As a result, Musk once again reclaimed the top spot for wealth.
Before his brief overtaking by Ellison, Musk had held the title of world’s richest person for almost a full year.
As of the 11th in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Musk leads slightly with $384 billion, just ahead of Ellison’s $383 billion.
For most of the 10th, Ellison was ranked first in net worth, but later that day, Musk’s net assets ticked up slightly, retaking the top spot with about a $1 billion advantage. As Oracle’s stock edged down at close, Ellison’s net worth fell slightly to $383.2 billion, dropping him back to second place.
Ellison’s net worth jumped by about $89 billion in a single day, marking the largest one-day wealth gain ever recorded by the index. The 81-year-old Ellison holds about 1.16 billion Oracle shares, roughly 41% of the company’s outstanding stock. Ellison’s sixth wife is Zhu Jiaoling, a 34-year-old Chinese woman.
Musk’s wealth primarily benefits from his massive compensation plan and the rising valuation of SpaceX over the past decade. He first became the world’s richest person in 2021 and was later overtaken at times by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault.
Additionally, according to the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires Index, Ellison’s total wealth has increased to nearly $390 billion, while Musk’s stands at about $436 billion.
