Mother of Three Suffers from Kidney Failure, Hope Place Extends a Helping Hand

(Shi Longmen, 14th) - Local charity organization Kuching Hope Place recently visited Kampung Buso to assist a family in distress as the mother of three has been struck by kidney failure.
36-year-old Meriam Suwin has been battling the illness since 2021. Her condition has placed heavy psychological pressure on her family and further worsened their financial hardships.
She said: "I will stay strong for my family." Despite her deteriorating health, she continues to show a determined will.

While living in Miri, Meriam first experienced severe weight loss during the COVID-19 pandemic, but delayed seeking medical help due to fear of hospitals.
Subsequently, her family decided to move to Kuching to seek traditional treatments in hopes of improving her condition, but the situation only continued to worsen until she finally received a proper diagnosis.
Doctors at Sarawak General Hospital later diagnosed her with kidney failure, requiring immediate and ongoing treatment to control her illness and prevent complications.
Currently, Meriam must undergo hemodialysis three times a week at Shi Longmen Hospital. This intensive treatment leaves her weak and her weight keeps dropping.
Her 36-year-old husband, Seliman, works at a local chicken farm, earning a meager income that barely covers rent, daily expenses, and medical costs.
He said: "We do our best every day, but sometimes it is still not enough." expressing the long-term financial pressures and responsibilities faced by the family.

The couple have three children, aged between 11 and 18. Their eldest son is currently working while waiting for an opportunity to continue his studies.
The 14-year-old daughter has shouldered more household responsibilities, preparing meals for the family every afternoon before going to school.
Meriam expressed with emotion: "I'm just a village girl who dropped out of school early, but I hope my children can have a better life."
Although the family receives monthly assistance of RM500 from the Social Welfare Department, the ongoing dialysis treatments and education expenses for their children continue to put them under tremendous financial strain.
The organization is currently providing them with basic food aid and calls on the public to generously lend a hand to families facing similar medical and financial difficulties.
