(Bandar Seri Begawan, 21st) - Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) today confirmed that a skimming attempt involving one of its ATMs was unsuccessful. The bank’s system was not breached, and no customer accounts, funds, or data were compromised.
The public promptly reported suspicious activity at the affected ATM, enabling BIBD to learn of the attempted skimming and immediately take preventive measures, including lodging a report with the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF).
In a statement, BIBD said: “We wish to assure our customers and the public that our banking system remains secure. The safety of our customers and the integrity of our banking services remain our highest priorities.”
As a further precaution, the affected ATM has been taken out of service, and an investigation is ongoing.
BIBD has also conducted a comprehensive inspection of its ATM network and confirmed that all other ATMs are operating normally and securely.
BIBD stated: “We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who promptly reported suspicious activity. Your vigilance is crucial in helping us maintain a secure and reliable banking environment.”
BIBD is working closely with the Royal Brunei Police Force and relevant authorities to investigate the incident and will continue to closely monitor the situation.
The bank also encourages customers and the public to remain vigilant when using ATMs and to check for any unusual attachments, loose components, or signs of tampering before inserting bank cards.
If any suspicious activity is noticed, the public is advised not to use the ATM and to report immediately to BIBD or the Royal Brunei Police Force.
“By working together, we can help prevent fraud and safeguard our community. Thank you for your continued vigilance, trust, and cooperation.”
