(Kuala Belait, 30th) Ambassador Xiao Jianguo stated in his speech at the 70th anniversary celebration of the Kuala Belait Fuzhou Association that he was very pleased to gather together with all the friends present.
“Since its founding in 1955, the predecessors of the Kuala Belait Fuzhou Association have worked tirelessly and supported each other, establishing a spiritual home for Fuzhou people in a foreign land. Over the years, the Association has enthusiastically served the local Fuzhou community, actively participated in Brunei's development and construction, vigorously promoted the fine traditions of remembering one's ancestors and hometown, cared for and supported the development of their country of origin, promoted Chinese traditional culture, and made significant contributions to promoting cooperation between China and Brunei in various fields and deepening people-to-people connectivity.”
He continued, “Not long ago, the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was held in Beijing. The most important outcome of the session was the review and adoption of the 'Proposals of the CPC Central Committee for Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development,' which provided a top-level design and strategic plan for China’s development in the next five years. This year, Brunei has also formulated its Twelfth National Development Plan (RKN12). China’s '15th Five-Year Plan' and Brunei’s RKN12 are highly compatible, and share many common concepts. China is willing to actively strengthen the alignment of development plans with Brunei, promote new fruitful cooperation in various fields, deepen cultural exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations, and help take the building of a China-Brunei community with a shared future to a new level.”
“I am about to complete my term and will be leaving my post and returning to China soon. I feel extremely fortunate to have worked in Brunei, the 'Abode of Peace.' Over the past two years and nine months, I have witnessed Brunei’s good governance, social harmony, and steady progress in economic development and diversification, as the country continues to move toward its ‘Vision 2035’ goal. For a long time, the vast number of Chinese friends have provided me with great support and assistance in my work, for which I express my heartfelt gratitude. There is an old Chinese saying: ‘If you have a confidant within the seas, distance cannot keep you apart.’ No matter where I am in the future, I will, as always, continue to pay attention to and support the development of China-Brunei relations. I believe my successor will lead the embassy to continue working hard to do practical things, solve problems, and perform good deeds for everyone, so that Chinese compatriots can always feel the warmth of their ancestral homeland. I also hope all friends will continue to support the work of the embassy and contribute to the cause of China-Brunei friendship.”
