Europe’s Imported Energy Costs Surge by €3 Billion in 10 Days; Iran Warns Oil Prices May Hit $200

On the 11th, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, that US and Israeli military strikes on Iran have heightened tensions in the Middle East, resulting in losses of at least several billion euros for the European public.

She said the conflict has caused oil and gas prices in Europe to soar, which has already forced Europeans to pay an extra 3 billion euros (about 13.6 billion ringgit) for energy imports.

She noted that the European Commission is currently evaluating more measures to lower energy bills, including setting a cap on natural gas prices.

Von der Leyen stressed that the EU has promoted diversification of fossil fuel supply sources in recent years, but "that does not mean we are immune to price shocks."

The Russia-Ukraine conflict has already caused energy prices in EU countries to surge, with European businesses and consumers long complaining about the situation.

On the 11th, a spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters of the Armed Forces warned the US and Israel to stop inhumane acts.

The spokesperson said that if they can tolerate oil prices rising to over $200 (about 783 ringgit) per barrel, then go ahead and continue playing this game.
