China's Special Envoy on Middle East Issues, Zhai Jun, pointed out during his meeting with Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister, Faisal, that promoting peace and ending the war is the fundamental way out of the current predicament.
According to the website of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during his visit to Saudi Arabia and meeting with Faisal on the 8th, Zhai Jun stated that China is deeply concerned about the current regional tensions. China has always believed that the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and the fundamental norms of international relations should be upheld. The sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of countries in the Gulf region are inviolable, and any attacks on innocent civilians or non-military targets should be condemned.
He noted that promoting peace and ending the war is the fundamental way out of the current predicament. China urges all parties to immediately cease military operations, prevent further escalation of tensions, and avoid causing greater harm to the people of regional countries.
Zhai Jun stressed that, as a major country upholding fairness and justice and a good friend and partner of Saudi Arabia, China will continue to play a constructive role and is willing to work actively with Saudi Arabia to engage all parties and make unremitting efforts to safeguard peace and stability in the Gulf region.
At the same time, Zhai Jun also met with the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Budawi, in Riyadh on the same day.
Zhai Jun stated that the current regional situation is highly complex and sensitive, and China urges all parties to immediately cease fire and end hostilities, prevent further escalation of tensions, and return to the track of negotiations as soon as possible.
He pointed out that China appreciates the GCC's special foreign ministers' meeting for emphasizing that dialogue and diplomacy are the only ways to overcome the current crisis and maintain regional stability. China will further play a constructive role, and, together with the GCC and Gulf countries, actively promote peace and end hostilities, and help de-escalate regional tensions.
