(Bandar Seri Begawan, 2nd) Following the announcement by the Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) on September 22, 2025, regarding the issuance of new series of banknotes, these banknotes (denominations include 1 Brunei dollar, 5 Brunei dollars, 10 Brunei dollars, 100 Brunei dollars, and 500 Brunei dollars) will be distributed through local banks starting from March 9, 2026 (Monday).
The new banknotes will be distributed via local banks, with actual supply depending on stock availability.
The new banknotes adopt enhanced security features consistent with global currency development trends, aiming to strengthen the integrity of Brunei’s currency and curb counterfeiting. This initiative reflects Brunei Darussalam Central Bank’s (BDCB) commitment to secure and reliable banknotes, and recognizes that cash continues to play an important role as the country transitions to a digital economy.
The Brunei Central Bank assures the public that all existing circulating banknotes remain legal tender and will continue to circulate alongside the new banknotes.
