Mary Rivera, the actress who played Ned Leeds' Filipino grandmother in the Marvel film "Spider-Man: No Way Home," has passed away at the age of 82. Her family confirmed to the media that Mary fell into a coma after a stroke in April. Doctors advised the family that even if she regained consciousness, her prognosis would not be optimistic. The family ultimately decided to remove life support, after which Mary passed away in Honolulu, Hawaii. She has since been cremated.
In "Spider-Man," Mary delivered her lines in Filipino and shared scenes with Tom Holland (as Peter Parker), Zendaya (as MJ), and Jacob Batalon (as Ned). She even requested Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, in Filipino, to clean the spider webs off the ceiling, and Ned translated for her: "My grandma wants to know, since you’re already up there, could you clean up the webs on the ceiling?" Spider-Man promptly obliged. Mary was always proud to have participated in a Marvel film, and that classic scene, full of real-life humor, has continued to delight fans.
