A 43-year-old Irish man is suspected of repeatedly stealing perfume while in transit at Singapore's Changi Airport, and was charged in court on the 8th.
According to a report by Lianhe Zaobao, the Singapore Police Force issued a statement on the 7th, stating that the man was suspected of committing two thefts at the Shilla Duty-Free Perfume and Cosmetics store in the transit area of Terminal 1 at Changi Airport.
The first case occurred on June 8. At about 10:05 am on June 9, the police received a report stating that, during an inventory check, the above store found two bottles of perfume worth a total of S$491.70 missing.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man allegedly took perfume from the display shelves that day and left the store without paying.
After checking CCTV footage, airport police identified the man, but he had already left Singapore.
On June 13, the man was arrested by police when he returned to Changi Airport on a transit flight.
Further investigations revealed that, before his arrest, he was also suspected of stealing a bottle of perfume worth S$167 from another Shilla Duty-Free Perfume and Cosmetics store outlet.
Police recovered two out of the three stolen bottles of perfume from him.
If convicted, he could face up to seven years' imprisonment, a fine, or both.
