8,760 Students in Sarikei and Meradong Benefit from Distribution Program

(Sarikei, 23rd) A total of 8,760 students from Sarikei and Meradong districts have benefited from the 2026 school uniform and shoe distribution program.
Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities and Sarikei MP, Datuk Dr. Rundi Utom, stated that the program has been implemented since 2018, aiming to alleviate the financial burden of parents during the school opening season.
This program recently completed its distribution in SMK St Anthony, SMK Bandar Sarikei, and SMK Tinggi Sarikei, benefiting a total of 1,868 students.

He said: "We hope this assistance brings a positive impact, allowing students to attend school with greater confidence and comfort and pursue knowledge with enthusiasm."
He added that among the beneficiaries, 5,808 students are from Sarikei, and 2,952 are from Meradong.
During the event, Datuk Dr. Rundi highly praised the Sarawak Government’s policy of free higher education.
"This is an important investment in the future of the young generation, enabling them to continue their education without financial burdens."
"This fully demonstrates the Sarawak Government’s continued commitment to placing people’s welfare as a top priority," he said.

He also expressed gratitude to Sarawak Premier Abang Johari for his visionary leadership in continuously safeguarding the welfare of all Sarawakians.
"Every child should have equal educational opportunities. I urge students to cherish these opportunities, study diligently, and create a brighter future," he said.
At the same time, as Labo state assemblyman, he also announced a total allocation of RM40,000 to support local educational development.
Of this, both SMK St Anthony and SMK Tinggi Sarikei each received RM20,000 for their respective annual activity funds.
