TATAU, June 4: The body of a 24-year-old man who was feared drowned after falling into the Tatau River near Rh Enjan, Nanga Biban yesterday (June 3), was recovered this morning.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Tatau, the emergency call was received at 10.12pm on Tuesday.
However, a search and rescue (SAR) operation could not be launched immediately due to the challenging terrain—accessible only via logging roads that are difficult to navigate at night.
The SAR operation was activated at 8.28am today following a briefing involving other enforcement agencies, including the police and the Civil Defence Force (APM).
At 9.10am, Tatau police alerted the SAR team that the victim’s body had been discovered by members of the public and family about five metres from the riverbank, near his longhouse.
SAR teams then proceeded to the site, approximately 14 kilometres from the operation control post.
The victim’s remains were recovered and transported to the old market wharf before being handed over to Tatau police for further action.
