Singapore and China’s Guangdong Province signed 20 cooperation agreements on the 25th, with both places deepening cooperation in multiple areas such as trade and connectivity, sustainable development, healthcare, and financial services.

The 15th meeting of the Singapore-Guangdong Cooperation Council was held in Guangzhou on the 25th, co-chaired by Singapore’s Minister for Social Policies and Minister for Health, Ong Ye Kung, and Guangdong Governor Meng Fanli. This was also Meng Fanli’s first attendance as the Chinese Joint Chairman of the Singapore-Guangdong Cooperation Council since becoming governor last month.

In his speech at the meeting, Ong Ye Kung said that Singapore attaches great importance to cooperation with Guangdong and the Greater Bay Area, and is willing to work hand in hand with Guangdong to deepen cooperation in new fields such as green and digital economy, innovation technology, and biomedicine, jointly exploring more new opportunities for mutual benefit.

Looking ahead, Ong Ye Kung pointed out that Singapore is a gateway to the vibrant Southeast Asian market, and for China, Guangdong Province and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area play a similar role. By leveraging each other's complementary advantages, Singapore and Guangdong can further strengthen integration, deepen market access, and promote free trade and investment.

As of 2024, Guangdong has been Singapore’s largest provincial trading partner in China for 36 consecutive years. In the first half of this year, bilateral trade between Singapore and Guangdong reached US$11.7 billion (RM48.369 billion).

This year also marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City. Currently, more than 60 Singaporean enterprises have set up in Knowledge City, using it as a platform to expand their business and enhance their regional influence.
