On the 17th, a landslide occurred in Pengshui County, Chongqing, China. The latest casualty data confirms 11 dead, 10 injured, and 50 missing. Currently, there are no signs of life at the disaster site.
CCTV News updated these statistics on the evening of the 23rd and stated that the search for remains is still ongoing.
According to the report, due to the large volume of the collapsed mass, the size and quantity of falling boulders, the narrow working area, and poor slope stability, rescue efforts have been extremely challenging. Multiple professional teams have been mobilized, deploying heavy engineering machinery, life detection equipment, drones, and other specialized devices. Rescue operations are being carried out by means of directional blasting and step-by-step advancement, while strictly preventing secondary disasters and ensuring the safety of rescuers.
The report states that the rescue operation has entered a deep phase. After several rounds of life detection and searches, no signs of life have been detected.
Geological experts inspecting the site pointed out that this collapse qualifies as a large-scale geological disaster. The collapsed mass is approximately 60 meters long, 30 meters high, and 10 meters thick, with a total volume of about 18,000 cubic meters. The largest dangerous rock measures about 3,000 cubic meters.
