German Chancellor Merz, who is currently visiting China, continued his trip on the 26th to Hangzhou, Zhejiang, as part of his China tour.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Hangzhou is the second stop of Merz’s visit to China.
During his stay, Merz will visit Unitree Robotics and German turbine manufacturer Siemens Energy.
On the 25th, Merz arrived in Beijing for a two-day official visit, which is his first visit to China since he took office in May last year. Accompanying him is a business delegation composed of executives from 30 German companies, including Bayer Pharmaceuticals, Siemens, and Mercedes-Benz.
In light of the turmoil caused by the US Trump administration’s trade policies, Merz’s visit to China is seen as “walking a tightrope.” On the economic and trade front, he is expected to express concerns over China’s excess export capacity; in terms of regional security, he hopes China will put pressure on Russia to end the Russia-Ukraine war as soon as possible.
