Miri Teochew Association Visits Bintulu for Exchange and Learning of Teochew Grand Gong & Drum

(Bintulu, 21st) In order to strengthen connections between local associations and promote the inheritance of Teochew culture, Miri Teochew Association President Yang Zhenping led a 7-member delegation of 6 committee members to visit the Bintulu Teochew Association on 19/6/2026. They were warmly received by Bintulu Teochew Association President Shen Xiangwu and more than 30 committee members and members. The two associations carried out their exchange in a friendly and pleasant atmosphere.
The exchange meeting was held at the Bintulu Teochew Association clubhouse. The host carefully prepared delicious snacks to welcome the visiting Miri delegation, and arranged a variety of exchange activities, offering both associations' committee members the opportunity to get acquainted, share experience in managing the association, and discuss the direction of clan development.

During the exchange, Bintulu Teochew Association specially arranged a wonderful 30-minute demonstration by the Teochew Grand Gong & Drum Team. Members of the team explained in detail the uses of the Teochew Grand Gong & Drum in traditional rituals and their playing techniques, also personally demonstrating how to strike various instruments, allowing the Miri delegation to gain a deeper understanding of this Teochew traditional culture.
To make the exchange more interactive, the Bintulu side also invited members of the Miri delegation to personally try their hand at the gongs, drums, and other instruments, experiencing the unique charm of the Teochew Grand Gong & Drum under guidance. Delegation members all expressed how much they benefited and deeply admired the efforts to pass on Teochew traditional culture.
At noon, the Bintulu Teochew Association hosted a sumptuous lunch for the guests. Both sides continued their exchanges in a relaxed and warm atmosphere, further enhancing the friendship between the two associations and fully embodying the spirit of "Teochew family as one."

After the exchange, including Miri Teochew Association President Yang Zhenping, four delegates stayed on to attend the premiere screening of the Teochew film "A Letter to Grandma," specially arranged by the Bintulu Teochew Association. They watched this heartwarming and touching film together with local clansmen, adding rich cultural meaning to this exchange activity.
Yang Zhenping sincerely thanked the Bintulu Teochew Association for their warm reception and thoughtful arrangements. He pointed out that this exchange not only strengthened the friendship between the two associations but also allowed the Miri delegation to gain an in-depth understanding of the Teochew Grand Gong & Drum culture. They gained a lot from the experience. He also hopes both sides can continue to stay connected in the future, organize more exchange activities, jointly promote the inheritance and development of Teochew culture, and keep the bonds of friendship ever fresh.
