(Kuching, 6th) The Sarawak Rural Development Institute (INFRA) campus multi-functional auditorium construction project is currently only 60% complete, significantly behind the planned 83% progress. In light of this, Deputy Minister Datuk Rubia stressed the need for stricter monitoring measures to ensure the project can be completed on schedule.
The total cost of the project is RM5.68 million. Datuk Rubia recently conducted an onsite inspection during a working visit, holding a comprehensive briefing to understand the construction progress and the issues faced in detail.
The construction project began on December 20, 2023, and is expected to be completed on August 19, 2025. The project is currently supervised by the Malaysia Public Works Department's Second Special Project Team (STP), with Mindagang Resources Sdn Bhd as the contractor.
Despite the delays, the project has a wide scope, including the main building, utilities, badminton court, prayer rooms for men and women, changing rooms, lobby, washrooms, disabled toilets, stage, switchboard room, and audiovisual room.
Datuk Rubia noted that this inspection action demonstrates the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development's commitment to ensuring rural infrastructure projects meet standards and bring long-term positive impacts to the local community.
"We hope that every penny directly benefits the people. This is not just about constructing a building; it is about creating an inclusive space conducive to the development of the rural community."
With more than a year until the completion date, she stated that the ministry will continue to strengthen monitoring efforts to resolve the delay issues as soon as possible and get the project back on track.
