The latest public opinion poll released by the Taiwan Public Opinion Foundation shows that over 40% of the public believes the case against former Taiwan People's Party Chairman Ko Wen-je is a miscarriage of justice.
According to comprehensive reports from ETtoday News Cloud and Taiwan’s United Daily News, the poll released by the Taiwan Public Opinion Foundation on the 12th found that when asked whether they agreed with Ko Wen-je’s statement, after his release, claiming he was wrongly imprisoned, 41.6% of respondents agreed, and 38.2% disagreed.
Foundation Chairman You Yinglong said this finding conveys an important message—public opinion in Taiwan is quite divided on whether Ko Wen-je’s case is a miscarriage of justice, but more people tend to believe it is; this will inevitably breed strong political effects and bring significant political consequences because Ko Wen-je is not only the former TPP chairman but also a 2024 presidential candidate who lost with a high number of votes.
Regarding whether they were satisfied with the overall performance of the Taipei District Prosecutors Office in investigating Ko Wen-je’s case, the poll showed 26.8% of respondents were satisfied, while 54% were dissatisfied.
You Yinglong bluntly stated that it’s clear more than half the public is dissatisfied with the Taipei District Prosecutors’ overall handling of Ko Wen-je’s case, with the satisfied group being about half the size of the dissatisfied. At this moment, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office seems to have become a target for criticism, which is undoubtedly a very serious warning sign.
The above poll was conducted from September 8th to 10th, targeting adults aged 20 and above across Taiwan.
