Ex-wife Suspected to Be Banned from Attending Farewell Ceremony; Yuan Wei-ren’s Children Respond

59-year-old "Little Fat Teacher" Yuan Wei-ren passed away on February 2. The memorial hall was opened to friends and family for condolences on March 7 and 8, with the farewell ceremony to be held on the 10th. According to reports, his ex-wife, Lu Yuanqi, recently posted an article angrily accusing someone of pressuring their children to stop her from appearing at the memorial hall or the farewell ceremony.

Yuan Wei-ren’s son, Yuan Yi, and daughter, Yuan Rong, were seen busy at the memorial hall on the 7th, but Lu Yuanqi was not seen. Yuan Yi and Yuan Rong said in an interview on the 7th that the family did not restrict their mother from coming to pay her respects. When asked whether their mother would come to the memorial hall or attend the farewell ceremony, Yuan Rong said, "That’s up to her to decide."

Yuan Yi added: "Mom really cares about Dad, she’s always cared about him. As the younger generation, all we can do is send Dad off well. She told us to do that, and we have not restricted her from coming."

On the evening of the 7th at 10:22 pm, Lu Yuanqi posted on Facebook, "Thank you to my two precious ones for doing what I cannot do," expressing her feelings by saying, "With these two children, I am satisfied for this lifetime." She seemed to explain her absence from the memorial, writing: "While everyone is waiting for me to appear, I am still working tirelessly in front of the computer."

Yuan Yi said that since his father became ill, even though he couldn't often visit Taitung, he and his sister always managed to say what they wanted to their father. He said that when his father was healthy, he told him: "Go and do what you love."

Yuan Rong said that their father had always fully supported her decisions, and also revealed that she often dreamed about him. In her dreams, her father was healthy and smiling, "just coming to see me, smiling." She shared a close relationship with her father and always hoped he could participate in important moments of her life.

The photo of Yuan Wei-ren playing guitar for the memorial was chosen together by family members. Yuan Yi and Yuan Rong said they wanted to preserve the most familiar image of their father: "It just feels right that Dad must have his guitar with him." Yuan Rong also shared that her dad would nearly always keep chocolate by his bedside, so they especially prepared his favorite chocolate at the memorial.

The siblings expressed their gratitude to many friends in the music industry who helped with Yuan Wei-ren’s funeral arrangements. Yuan Rong said emotionally: "Dad was truly a success as a person. So many people are willing to help out."
