Taiwan’s Ministry of the Interior (MOI) announced on Thursday that registration for the final round of this year’s “Moments of the Heart” singles matchmaking events will open at 12 noon on the 7th, with 400 spots available. Any participants who join the same round this year and complete their marriage registration within 2 years will be eligible, with the first couple to announce their marriage to the MOI receiving a pair of 1-carat diamond rings.
The MOI stated today that the final round of the 2026 “Moments of the Heart” singles matchmaking events will take place over 5 sessions in September and October, with a total of 400 openings. Online registration will open at 12 noon on August 7.
According to the MOI, this year’s singles events have been met with an enthusiastic response. Since late June, there have already been 74 successful couples. To further encourage unmarried individuals to participate, the MOI is subsidizing 20% of the event costs. Participants in the one-day trips need to pay only NT$1,440 (about RM182.51), while those joining two-day trips pay NT$4,160 (about RM527.25), with the goal of reducing financial burden and expanding social circles.
The MOI pointed out that the final round of matchmaking events will be especially exciting, featuring activities such as the Fulong bike trail, Alishan narrow-gauge train, sky lantern release in Pingxi, jam-making DIY in Chiayi, as well as rich ecological tours in Kenting and Taroko. These varied and relaxed itineraries are designed to help participants get closer to each other.
According to the MOI’s latest data, the number of marriages in Taiwan last year fell to just 104,376, a record low. In addition, the average age at first marriage for both men and women set new highs: in 2024, men married at an average age of 33.1, and women at 31.1.
