(Bandar Seri Begawan, 20th) Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) held its 40th anniversary celebration yesterday, marking four decades of continuous development, institutional transformation, and outstanding contributions to higher education and technological advancement in Brunei.
The UTB 40th anniversary launch ceremony was officiated by the Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Pro-Chancellor of UTB, at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Islamic Treasures Museum Auditorium.
The Crown Prince subsequently presided over the UTB 40th anniversary celebration.
A special celebratory video further enlivened the atmosphere, in which former and current UTB Vice-Chancellors and ministers reflected on the achievements since UTB’s establishment.
Following this, special 40th Anniversary Awards were presented to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to UTB’s development and legacy, including: Distinguished Service Awards (22 recipients), Long Service Awards (13 recipients), and Special Outstanding Staff Awards (7 recipients).
At the same time, the UTB 40th Anniversary Logo Design Award was presented to Dayang Izzati binti Haji Sahrin.
The establishment of the university is not only the founding of a higher learning institution, but also a national response to the needs of the education system and was aligned with the Ministry of Development’s post-independence priorities, aiming to transcend the colonial-era educational framework and achieve sustainable, self-reliant national development.
Founded in 1986, the university has evolved from a technical college into a leading comprehensive technological university, playing a vital role in producing highly skilled graduates meeting industry needs, while also supporting the nation’s vision of a knowledge-based and innovation-driven economy.
Over the past four decades, UTB has remained committed to its mission, striving to integrate education, research, innovation, and industry collaboration in line with national development priorities.
On this occasion, the UTB Mushaf Foundation was also officially launched, reflecting the university’s holistic educational philosophy balancing academic excellence, spiritual values, and social responsibility.
During the celebration, a “Forty Years Exhibition” was held, reviewing UTB’s transformation journey and contributions over its forty years. The exhibition highlighted key achievements, institutional development, and showcased UTB’s important role in the national technological landscape.
In addition, a commemorative book entitled “The First Forty Years: Honouring Tradition, Empowering Innovation” was released, documenting UTB’s development, leadership, and contributions to national development through education, research, and innovation.
