Anwar Congratulates Lee Jae-myung on Being Elected as President of South Korea

(Kuala Lumpur, 4th) Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim warmly congratulates the Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung on being elected as President of South Korea.
Anwar posted on Facebook this morning (4th), stating that the South Korean people hope for new changes in trust, institutions, and national missions, and Lee Jae-myung's presidential election marks a turning point for South Korea, as they have emerged from a period of intense competition and scrutiny with resilience and democratic determination.
He mentioned that our country and South Korea have elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership as of November 2024, and he is pleased to have the opportunity to work with Lee Jae-myung to deepen cooperation and friendship in trade and technology, peace and security, and the connections between the peoples of the two countries.
Anwar also hopes that ASEAN can occupy a more important position in South Korea's regional strategy.

He stated that Malaysia, as the rotating chair of ASEAN and APEC in 2025, believes in the capability to lead influential regional cooperation initiatives with South Korea.
"In the midst of global turmoil, deepening the partnership between Southeast Asia and South Korea is crucial for all of us."
Anwar also invited Lee Jae-myung to visit Malaysia before October to participate in the series of ASEAN summits and looks forward to meeting at the summits and the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Gyeongju, South Korea.
