Chinese drama heartthrob Cheng Yi has shot to fame thanks to several popular series, but has recently been subject to terrifying harassment. On the 14th, Cheng Yi’s studio issued a statement highlighting that Cheng Yi and his family have recently suffered from stalking and being blocked, even having his private car maliciously splashed with red paint and written with vicious words—numerous despicable acts. The studio strongly condemned the individual’s behavior, saying it has seriously threatened the physical and mental safety of the artist, and has already reported to Chinese police and preserved evidence to pursue legal action.
Stalking and Blocking Severely Affect Private Life
According to the statement from Cheng Yi’s studio, the individual obtained Cheng Yi’s private itinerary through illegal means, setting off a series of frenzied actions that include, but are not limited to, tailing, blocking, and even dangerously chasing Cheng Yi’s vehicle on the road, trying to force it to stop. These behaviors not only seriously infringe on Cheng Yi’s normal life and personal safety, but have also caused tremendous distress to staff.
The harassment intensified on the morning of the 14th. The statement noted that at around 6:40am, the individual sneaked into the area where Cheng Yi’s car was parked and maliciously vandalized the vehicle—not only splashing red paint, but also spraying extremely vicious words. The studio, upon discovering the incident, promptly collected and preserved evidence from the scene.
Due to the individual’s obsessive stalking, escalating malign acts, and aggressive language and behavior even in front of Chinese police, the studio stated it has full reason to worry the individual poses a further risk of physical harm. At present, Cheng Yi’s studio has emphasized the potential danger to the Chinese authorities and requested necessary measures to prevent further infringement. At the same time, the studio stressed that it will not tolerate this behavior and will legally uphold Cheng Yi’s legitimate rights and personal safety.
