(Bandar Seri Begawan, 13th) The Brunei Meteorological Department has indicated that due to the indirect effects of Typhoon “PODUL”, active weather will persist across the country until Saturday morning.

As of 2 PM yesterday, the typhoon was located in the western Pacific at 21.3 degrees north latitude and 126.6 degrees east longitude, about 2,000 kilometers from Brunei. It is expected to move northwest and away from the country, but will still bring unstable weather.

The Meteorological Department forecasts that many areas nationwide will intermittently experience heavy showers and thunderstorms, with gusts of wind reaching speeds of up to 55 km/h during or surrounding periods of heavy rain. As for sea conditions, light to moderate waves of about 0.5 to 1.5 meters are expected in Brunei's coastal waters, but may temporarily rise to 3 meters during showers or before Friday.

The Meteorological Department reminds the public—including road users and fishermen—to remain vigilant during active weather. Low-lying and flood-prone areas should be wary of flash floods, landslides, falling trees, and the risk of injury from flying debris. Crew members, especially small vessel operators, are advised to avoid going to sea in adverse sea conditions.

The authorities will continue to monitor the situation and issue notices or warnings as necessary. The public is urged to obtain the latest information via the Brunei Meteorological Department mobile application “Brunei WX”, the official website (www.met.gov.bn), or official social media platforms, and not to trust unverified social media weather information.
